About eCow Auctions
Midwestern Cattle Marketing, LLC (MCM) provides an Internet Auction service via eCowAuctions that is very different from those offered by our competitors. Our competitors' events are often characterized by adverse weather conditions or poor quality streaming video transmitted from outdoor locations on a single sale day. Our eCowAuctions are true Internet Cattle Auctions, similar in format to other Internet auctions. They take place over a period of several days and feature high-quality photos of livestock in their natural environment, so buyers know that what they see is what they will get. With our eCowAuctions format, cattle are protected from the health risks of a sale barn environment.
Similar to Video Auctions when they were first introduced, eCowAuctions are quickly gaining popularity due to many advantages. Like Video Auctions, eCowAuctions reduce selling costs; incorporate competitive bidding, which results in optimal pricing; maintain cattle health due to minimal transportation; and allow producers and buyers to participate from the comfort of their own office or home. eCowAuctions, which are ideal for the sale of breeding stock, take place over an extended bidding window of several days, so buyers can place bids at their convenience. Buyers benefit from being able to view large numbers of cattle without having to make multiple trips to sale barns to find a good fit.
Even with the many differences between traditional auctions and Internet Auctions, eCowAuctions provide much of the excitement of a sale barn on sale day, with bidders competing, prices changing, and energy building right up until the close of the sale.
The eCowAuctions interface is simple to use for viewing photos and descriptions of cattle, making bids, and finalizing transactions. The registration process is similar to the process at a sale barn: the buyer's banking information goes through a simple confirmation process, and the buyer receives a bid number when registration is complete.
eCowAuctions are ideal for breeding stock, and allow buyers to bid anytime, day or night, from the comfort of their office or home.
About Midwestern Cattle Marketing LLC
Midwestern Cattle Marketing, LLC (MCM) was founded by Jason O'Connell, Kenny Kohlhof, and Shawn Sexson in 2008. The founders have nearly 100 years of combined experience working in the cattle business, and the benefit of having watched and participated in hundreds of successful cattle sales themselves. The executive team, which includes the founders and three other members, draws from extensive knowledge of every aspect of the cattle industry, including production, transportation, and marketing, to achieve their ongoing success. MCM is built on a foundation of solid relationships - some reaching back 25 years or more - that continue to be maintained with a high level of service and integrity. MCM is proud to offer personal service to every customer, and to provide superior quality that contributes to their bottom line.
Tom O'Connell, CEO and Owner
Tom was born and raised on a Nebraska cattle and wheat farm, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from Colorado State University. He continued in the agriculture industry, working for Dinklage Feedyard, Inc. (the 13th largest feedlot in the world) for 33 years, including some time serving as the company's CEO. As CEO of MCM, Tom focuses on building an innovative and professional team of Field Representatives, and is actively involved in communicating the benefits of video cattle marketing to the ag world. He regularly interfaces with producers, order buyers, and feedyard managers. In his job, Tom particularly appreciates meeting new situations and challenges every day. He is pleased to be able to offer, through MCM's services, more potential buyers to the marketplace for specific producers. In his spare time, Tom enjoys golfing and spending time with family.
Jason O'Connell, President and Owner
Jason has been involved in the cattle industry his whole life, and has a solid understanding of all aspects of it, particularly bred cows and pairs. He has been buying and selling cattle for a number of years, so his current position is a natural progression of his career. In this position, Jason tends to the daily operations of MCM, and interfaces with both producers and buyers. He is pleased to provide a personal touch and excellent service to all of MCM's customers. He enjoys all aspects of his job, particularly dealing with people. In his spare time, Jason enjoys hunting and fishing with his son.
Kenny Kohlhof, Vice President and Owner
Kenny has 25 years of experience in direct agriculture sales. His career began in 1985, when he bought 10 head of cows, which he eventually built up to 750 head. He has owned and operated ranches and feed yards, and currently owns a 3,000 head feed yard. In his current position at MCM, he oversees Field Representatives, contributes to management decisions, and calls on buyers interested in MCM's Video Auctions. Based on his experience, Kenny understands how much work goes into producing good quality cattle, and appreciates it when he finds them during the course of his work. He also appreciates the high level of experience within MCM, the company's dedication to the cattle industry, and the understanding of what it takes to do successful marketing. When not at work, Kenny enjoys spending time with friends, watching his daughter participate in sports, and overseeing his feedlot ranch.
Steve Maulsby, Regional Manager and Owner
Steve grew up within the cattle industry and worked in a feed yard from 1981 to 1998. He then owned a commercial growing yard, and ran custom cattle on cornstalks and grass for 10 years. In his current position at MCM, he locates and consigns cattle for Western Video Market (MCM's partner company), buys and sells cattle for MCM, and interviews potential Field Representatives. Steve enjoys all aspects of his work, including the people, livestock, and travel. He is pleased to offer customers great service, and an easy business process. In his spare time, Steve enjoys being with his family, golfing, and team roping.
Shawn Sexson, Treasurer and Owner
Shawn has been involved in the cattle industry throughout his life. He grew up on a ranch in Nebraska and was heavily involved in 4-H, and Future Farmers of America. He earned an Associate's degree in Agribusiness, and a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Communication. After college, he managed his own livestock transportation business for 15 years before forming MCM. In his current position, Shawn takes on many tasks, including administration, planning, marketing, and organizing Field Representatives. He can be found at many of MCM's auctions, and regularly interacts with producers and buyers. The thing he likes most about his job is the honesty and integrity of the people he works with. During his off hours, Shawn enjoys spending time with his family.
